Because the Bedford was not ready when we went for holidays, we were going on vacation with the T3. We dismantled the third bank and put a bed on it. It was very small.
After the vacation I started to rebuild it into a camper. Not only for making more room, but in Holland it is cheaper to drive a camper than a bus. The tax for a camper is 25% from the tax of a bus of the same model(92 euro p.m.)
One of the requirements for a camper-license is that the height of the camper inside is at least 1,70m. The height inside a VW-bus is about 1,35m. So I have to build a so-called hefdak on the bus.
Here you can see it on another bus, before I bought it.
After sawing a big hole into the roof, I put the "hefdak" onto the bus.
The inside.
Here you can see how the roof is fitted on the bus.
Here you can see the bus when we were on the Autumn-meeting in the beginning of oktober 2002 in Limburg. As you can see, we can stand in the bus.
Also the interior needs different changes before you get a camper-license:
*There have to be 2 seats(they don't mean the drivers-seat and the passengers-seat).
*There has to be a table.
*There has to be a wardrobe and a cupboard.
*There has to be a bed.
*There has to be a gas-stove.
*and a washing-tub.
Everything has to be fitted so that it can not been removed.
So , as you can see, there are many demands and there is a lot to do. But with a lot of improvisation you can do very much.
The sitting-corner.
The original chairs have been removed and the camper-interior is fitted. Now, only the gas-stove and the washing-tub have to be fitted. The materials have to be very light, because the tax you have to pay depends on the weight of the vehicle.
